This 2003 Audi S8 is one of approximately 300 units imported for the final US model year of the D2 platform. Finished in Ming Blue Pearl Effect over Platinum Valcona leather, its 40-valve 4.2L V8 was replaced in 2016. It was retrofitted in September 2022 with a six-speed manual transaxle, which drives all four wheels through a Quattro all-wheel-drive system with a Torsen center differential. BBS 18″ wheels, Bilstein shock absorbers, European-specification xenon headlights, heated front and rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a Bose sound system are additional elements. Work since 2022 included replacing the timing belt, radiator, and driveshaft.
Built with an aluminum Audi Space Frame, the S8 was differentiated from the standard A8 with revised upper and lower front grille trim, polished aluminum mirror housings, and polished dual exhaust outlets. The car also features a glass sunroof, fog lights, Parktronic parking sensors, and laminated acoustic glass.
BBS 18×8.5″ CH wheels are mounted with 245/45 Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ tires. The brake system has Electronic Differential Lock traction control and four-piston calipers over 345mm rotors up front. Bilstein B6 dampers were installed at all four corners in June 2021 according to the seller, who reports the power steering lines, strut mounts, brake hoses, front rotors and pads, front control arms, front stabilizer bar bushings, front and rear stabilizer bar links, and rear lateral links were replaced during the work.
The heated and power-adjustable front sport seats are trimmed in Platinum leather, and wood trim accents the interior, which was optioned with the Premium Package that included heated rear seats, rear sunshades, an Audi Navigation system, and a trunk pass-through with a watertight ski sack. The Bose sound system is linked with an Audi Symphony II CD/cassette stereo.
Mounted on a power-adjustable column, a heated steering wheel was installed under current ownership, and it frames a central digital display flanked by gray-dial instruments.
Factory rated at 360 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, the aluminum 4.2L 40-valve V8 was replaced in 2016 by Flow Audi of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, at 143k miles. The fuel tank was replaced in 2017, the spark plugs were replaced in 2021, and the timing belt, water pump, radiator, coolant expansion tank, auxiliary cooling fan, downstream oxygen sensors, and serpentine belt, tensioner, and idler were replaced in 2022.
A six-speed 01E manual transaxle sourced from a C5 A6 model was overhauled before it was installed in September 2022 with a JH Motorsports chromoly flywheel and B7 RS4-specification clutch components. The right-front outer CV joint, rear output seal, and driveshaft were replaced in January 2024.
