This 1989 BMW M3 is one of approximately 5,300 examples produced for the North American market between 1987 and 1990. Finished in Alpine White II over beige upholstery, the car is powered by a 2.3-liter S14 inline-four mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Additional equipment includes tri-color bodyside stripes, 16″ BBS alloy wheels, a sunroof, a rear spoiler, fog lights, front sport seats, air conditioning, an onboard computer, a Racing Dynamics front strut tower brace, and a MagnaFlow muffler.
The car is finished in Alpine White II and features tri-color bodyside stripes, an electric sunroof, a rear spoiler, window tint film, fog lights, painted mirror caps, twin exhaust outlets, and wider fenders compared to the standard E30.
Multi-piece 16″ BBS alloy wheels are mounted with 225/45 Dunlop Direzza ZIII tires. The MacPherson strut/semi-trailing arm suspension was revised for the M3 with a thicker rear anti-roll bar as well as shorter and stiffer springs. Work performed in July 2019 involved replacing the ABS pump and two brake hoses as well as repairing the front and rear brake calipers.
The front sport seats are said to have been replaced under previous ownership and upholstered in beige vinyl. A short-throw shifter was reportedly installed along with a Pioneer XM radio-capable receiver, and appointments include air conditioning, an onboard computer, and power windows and locks. The trunk lid features Ray Korman, Dieter Quester, John Andretti, and Hans Stuck signatures.
The three-spoke M-Tech II steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil temperature, coolant temperature, and fuel level.
The 2.3-liter S14 inline-four was reportedly overhauled in the 2000s and was factory rated at 192 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. A Racing Dynamics strut tower brace spans the engine compartment.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Getrag five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. A MagnaFlow muffler has been installed, and the clutch slave cylinder as well as the left inner CV boot were replaced in June 2019.
A spare set of 15″ wheels is included in the sale along with manufacturer’s literature, a tool kit, and partial service records.
