This 1978 GMC K1500 Sierra Grande 4×4 pickup was modified when new by Hickey Enterprises of California with the Desert Fox special equipment package. This included Buckskin exterior paint with five-band striping on the hood, tailgate, and sides as well as an HE steering wheel, CIBIE auxiliary lights and a Buckskin-finished brush guard, roll bar, and wheels. The truck is powered by a 350ci V8 linked with a three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case and the cabin is outfitted with Buckskin cloth upholstery. Additional features include a receiver hitch, tow hooks, HE side steps, power steering, a suspension lift kit, manually locking front hubs, Bilstein shocks, and a dual exhaust system with MagnaFlow mufflers.
The truck wears faded Buckskin paint with five-band striping on the hood, tailgate, and sides. Exterior details include a front brush guard, a Wideside bed, a roll bar, CIBIE auxiliary lights, HE side steps, body-color bumpers, front and rear two hooks, chrome side mirrors, and Desert Fox badging.
Buckskin-finished 15″ wheels wear chrome trim rings and are mounted with 33×12.50″ Goodyear Wrangler All Terrain white-letter tires. The truck is equipped with power steering and manually locking front hubs, and braking is provided by front discs and rear drums. Work under prior ownership in 2021 consisted of installing a 2.5″ lift kit, Bilstein shocks and extended front shock mounts and replacing axle U-bolts, swaybar bushings, rear shock braces, front shackles, and main eye spring bushings.
The bench seat is trimmed in Buckskin cloth and vinyl upholstery joined by a color-coordinated dashboard and door panels. Equipment includes a heater, woodgrain trim, vent windows, and lap belts.
The HE leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 100-mph speedometer alongside gauges for fuel level, voltage, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 99k miles.
The 350ci V8 has been fitted with an aluminum intake manifold, an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor, an HEI distributor, mid-length exhaust headers, and Mickey Thompson finned valve covers. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
Power is delivered to the rear or all four wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case. A dual exhaust with MagnaFlow mufflers has been fitted. The transfer case and axle fluids were drained and filled in preparation for the sale.
Desert Fox brochures and ordering forms accompany the vehicle along with a diecast model, the manufacturer’s literature, and recent service records.
