This 1969 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia convertible was first sold in South Dakota and was moved to Wisconsin in 1995. The car is finished in light blue over black leatherette upholstery, and power comes from a 1.5L air-cooled flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Features include a black soft top, 15″ EMPI Sprint Star wheels, and chrome pedal covers. Service performed under current ownership included an overhaul of the brake system, a carburetor rebuild, and the installation of a replacement driver’s door latch, fuel pump, carpets, and door panels.
Delivered from the factory in Chrome Blue (L-51 K), the car was repainted in its current blue under previous ownership. Features include chrome bumpers with overriders, dual side-view mirrors, and an antenna. The driver’s door latch was replaced in 2021. Paint bubbles are noted on the left-front fender, there is an additional paint chip around the front trunk fuel filler door, and there are dents in the rear bumper.
The EMPI Sprint Star wheels were installed by the seller along with 165HR15 Vredestein Sprint Classic tires in June 2021. A factory-style spare wheel is mounted in the front trunk, and four removed wheels with older Michelin radial tires and hubcaps are included in the sale. Brake service performed in February 2021 included the installation of a replacement master cylinder, wheel cylinders, hoses, front calipers, and rear shoes.
The cabin features bucket seats with headrests trimmed in black leatherette with textured inserts. New seat cushions were fitted by Homestyle Custom Upholstery of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in June 2021, and new black carpets on the floors, rear parcel shelf, and front trunk were installed under current ownership along with replacement door panels. Features include a woodgrain dash panel with a black glovebox door, a wood shift knob, black floor mats, and chrome pedal covers. There are cracks in the dashpad and dash panel, and an aftermarket radio blanking plate is fitted.
The two-spoke steering wheel wears a vinyl wrap and frames a 90-mph speedometer, a fuel-level gauge, and a clock. Just over 81k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer.
The 1.5L air-cooled flat-four features a Solex downdraft carburetor that was rebuilt in June 2021. Other work at that time included a valve adjustment and the installation of a replacement voltage regulator.
The engine stamping features an H5 prefix, which corresponds to a 53-horsepower, 1.5L engine built for the North American market between 1968 and 1969.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transaxle. A new mechanical fuel pump was installed in February 2021, while a replacement clutch was fitted in June.
