This 2004 Volkswagen R32 is one of approximately 5,000 produced for the US market for a single model year and is finished Tornado Red over black leather. Powered by a 3.2-liter VR6 linked with a six-speed manual transaxle and 4MOTION all-wheel drive, the car is equipped with a sunroof, a rear spoiler, 18″ Aristo wheels, heated Konig front sport seats, a Monsoon sound system, Bilstein rear dampers, and Megan Racing rear lower control arms.
The R32 features revised bumper covers and side skirts compared to the contemporary Golf as well as dual exhaust outlets. This example is one of 662 produced in Tornado Red (LY3D) for the US market and is equipped with a power sunroof, a rear spoiler, a rear window wiper, and heated and power-adjustable side mirrors.
The 18″ Aristo alloy wheels are mounted with Michelin tires. The car is equipped with an Electronic Stability Program (ESP), a fully independent multi-link rear suspension, Bilstein rear dampers, and Megan Racing rear lower control arms. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes with blue-finished calipers at all four corners.
The heated Konig front sport seats are trimmed in black leather with “R”-logo backrest embroidery, while brushed alloy trim accents the cabin. Equipment includes R32-branded door-sill plates, metal pedal covers, automatic climate control, cruise control, and a CD/cassette stereo linked to a Monsoon audio system and a Phatnoise digital media player.
The R32 steering wheel is wrapped in thicker leather compared to the contemporary GTI, and it frames a 180-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline as well as gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 66k miles.
The 3.2-liter VR6 features four valves per cylinder and was factory rated at 240 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque. The oil was changed in preparation for the sale.
Power is delivered to all four wheels through a six-speed manual transaxle and a Haldex-based 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.
