This 1978 Datsun 280Z is a Light Gold 2+2 example that is powered by a numbers-matching 2.8L inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. The body is finished in Light Gold (517) and accented by chrome safety bumpers with black rubber guards, as well as black pinstripes and side moldings. Exterior features include a tilting sunroof, bright window trim, pop-out rear windows, rear mud flaps, and an Interpart LiftLouvre black rear window louver unit.
Steel 14″ wheels with “Z” logo wheel covers are mounted with 195/70 Michelin Defender T+H tires that were installed in 2019. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and vented rear drums, the front pads and rotors of which were reportedly replaced within the last three years.
The seating surfaces are trimmed in black upholstery with a color-coordinated dashboard, console, and door panels. Amenities include air conditioning, a factory Clarion AM/FM stereo, and black Z-branded rubber floor mats. Wear is visible on the driver’s seat outer bolster.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer, while an analog clock and additional readouts for temperature, oil pressure, battery voltage, and fuel level are mounted in a pod atop the center stack. The five-digit odometer is said to have rolled over once and now shows 12k miles. True mileage is unknown.
The 2.8-liter inline-six features Bosch fuel injection and was factory rated at 170 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque when new. The radiator was replaced in 2014, and the thermostat and ignition components were replaced in 2015. Service completed since 2018 included cleaning and rebuilding the fuel injectors, an ignition timing adjustment, and replacement of the fuel pump, starter, fuel pressure regulator, mass airflow sensor, and vacuum lines.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.
Manufacturer’s literature, the car’s vehicle identification booklet, a stamped service log, a hand-written maintenance log, spare parts, and service records dating to the 1970s are included in the sale.
