This 1981 Jeep CJ-5 was modified approximately 12 years ago, including a repaint in metallic green and the installation of an overbored 360ci AMC V8 that is paired with a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The seller purchased it in 2020 and subsequently added off-road lights, a custom sound system, Bestop seats, Pro Comp wheels, and Bestop half-doors. Other features include Holley fuel injection, front and rear Detroit lockers, and an onboard air compressor. Service performed in preparation for the sale is said to have included changing the oil, transmission fluid, and transfer case fluid, as well as replacing the spark plugs and wires.
The body was refinished in Cantine Green Metallic under previous ownership and features a removable black Bestop soft top. Additional exterior details include canvas half doors, a chrome front bumper, KC off-road lights, LED taillights, side steps, wheel arch flares, and a receiver hitch. A black bikini top and a full truck cover are included in the sale. The Carfax report indicates an aLident with another vehicle in February 2001 resulting in damage to the right front, while a second aLident is noted in August 2003 with damage to the rear.
The 15″ Pro Comp wheels were added after the seller’s purchase and wear 33×12.5″ BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires said to be have been on the truck at the time of the seller’s purchase. A matching full-size spare is mounted on a rear carrier. Modifications performed under previous ownership include a 4″ suspension lift, the installation of Rancho shocks, and a 1″ body lift with urethane body mounts.
The interior of the body tub is finished in black bed liner and is fitted with black vinyl Bestop bucket seats. Three-point seatbelts and a fire extinguisher are mounted to the black-painted roll cage. Additional interior details include an Igloo center console, a Hurst shifter, aftermarket speakers, and a JVC Bluetooth head unit.
The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of an aluminum dash panel housing an 85-mph speedometer with inset readouts for fuel level and coolant temperature. AutoMeter gauges for oil pressure and voltage have been added. The five-digit odometer shows 4,200 miles. Total mileage is unknown.
The 360ci AMC V8 is said to have been rebuilt and bored .030″ over prior to installation under previous ownership. It is fitted with Holley electronic fuel injection, a Crane camshaft, an Edelbrock intake manifold, and more as described on a document provided by the seller in the photo gallery below. Service performed in preparation for the sale included changing the oil and replacing the spark plugs and wires.
Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a Borg-Warner T18 four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The Dana 44 front axle is fitted with a Detroit locker, 4.10:1 Richmond gears, and Warn locking hubs. The AMC rear end also features 4.10:1 gearing and a Detroit locker. The seller notes that the transmission fluid and transfer case fluid were changed in preparation for the sale.
